Rain gutters in San Fernando Valley

The Valley runs hotter than the coast, and long summers of strong sun are hard on cheap paint. Our aluminum gutters use a baked Dura-Coat enamel, painted inside and out and guaranteed against peeling and chipping.

Then winter storms arrive all at once. Flat Valley lots don't drain fast, so where the downspouts point matters as much as the gutter itself. The estimator places them to move water away from slabs and foundations.

• Post-war single-story ranch homes: usually 5 in. OG gutters, matched to the trim
• Remodeled modern homes in Studio City and Encino: black box or OG gutters with rectangular downspouts
• Hillside homes south of Ventura Boulevard: more roof area, more trees, often 6 in. gutters
• Commercial and industrial buildings in Van Nuys and Chatsworth: bonderized steel
